Nexlok Industrial Self-tapping Inserts are metal inserts designed to tap directly into soft materials without the need for pre-tapping. Unlike conventional Threaded Inserts, the Nexlok Industrial is equipped with slots or cutting holes that ensure a clean cut of the thread in the host material during installation. This system enables quick, robust and reliable installation, particularly in aluminium, engineering plastics or light alloys. Ideal solution for industrial applications where ease of assembly, mechanical strength and time savings are crucial.

Self Tapping Thread Repair Inserts Installation Steps
Instruction for Use

Drilling
Clear the damaged thread witha drill bit or create a new hole in the parent material. For strong, hard and tough materials it is recommended to tap the thread(max. intermediate tap) before the installation of Self tapping inserts.
01
Screwing Self Tapping Insert on the inserting tool
Screw the Self tapping insert, with cutting slots or holes pointing down wards, on the inserting tool. Lock the Self tapping insert with the nut by wrench.
02
Installing the insert
Screw the Self tapping insert into the borehole. The Self tapping insert is self-tapping.The inserting tool has a 1/4"hexagonal shank and can beused by a cordless screwdriveror a wrench socket.
03
Screwing off the inserting tool
Unlock the counter nut by a wrench and screw off the inserting tool. Created bolted connections with Self tapping inserts are vibration resistant,wear-free and have a highload capacity in materials with low shearing strength.

FAQ
Q1: What is a Type 307 Self-Tapping Insert? How does it differ from Type 302 and Type 308?
A: The Type 307 Self-Tapping Insert is a slotless, self-cutting threaded insert designed to form its own mating threads during installation.
Compared with Type 302 (slotted) and Type 308 (multiple cutting edges), Type 307 features a more compact structure and provides stable installation with minimal surface disruption, making it suitable for applications where space is limited or a clean finished appearance is required.
Q2: What base materials are suitable for Type 307 Self-Tapping Inserts?
A: Type 307 Self-Tapping Inserts are primarily used in medium- to low-strength materials, including:
● Aluminum and aluminum alloys
● Zinc alloys
● Copper
● Cast iron
● Selected engineering plastics
They are not recommended for hardened or high-strength steel substrates.
Q3: Is thread tapping required before installing a Type 307 insert?
A: No. Type 307 Self-Tapping Inserts require only a pre-drilled pilot hole. During installation, the external cutting threads form the internal thread directly in the base material, eliminating the need for tapping and reducing overall assembly time.
Q4: How much does a Type 307 Self-Tapping Insert improve thread strength?
A: When installed in soft materials such as aluminum alloys, Type 307 inserts can increase thread load capacity by approximately 1.5 to 2 times compared to the original base material thread.
They also significantly improve pull-out resistance and fatigue performance, making them suitable for applications involving repeated assembly and disassembly.
Q5: What are the requirements for pilot hole size and installation depth?
A: ● The pilot hole diameter must strictly follow the recommended specifications.
● The hole depth should be at least the insert length plus 0.5–1 pitch allowance.
● After installation, the insert should sit slightly below the surface to ensure proper assembly clearance and avoid interference.
