Self-tapping inserts are used in light alloys (aluminum, magnesium, zinc and their alloys), cast iron, brass bronze, thermosetting plastics and laminates, and wood.
They are mainly used in automotive engines, transmission components, and other parts such as rearview mirrors, heat sinks, and shock absorbers; flange joints in factory equipment, construction equipment, and fuel equipment; household appliances and office equipment; capacitors, high-current equipment, radio frequency and telecommunications systems, and dental equipment. In the military, they are mainly used in tanks, fighter jets, and ships.
A self-tapping insert (or self-tapping bushing) is a fastener with internal and external bolts and a cutting hole or groove, thus representing a new type of fastener that strengthens the threaded surface. Self-tapping inserts are embedded in relatively soft materials such as plastics, aluminum alloys, cast iron, and copper, forming a high-strength internal threaded hole. They can also repair damaged internal threads. Self-tapping inserts do not require pre-tapping and can be directly screwed into a pre-drilled hole in the base material. Even for damaged threads, the same screw can be used.
